Warwick - The Warwick Fire Department honor one of its own,
outgoing chief William DiMartini, during the department’s biennial parade on
Saturday, Oct. 18.
Already there are 38 fire companies from Orange County, surrounding counties,
Long Island, New Jersey and Pennsylvania that are expected to participate in
this parade. There also are eight marching bands in addition to Warwick Valley
High School’s own marching band, which will lead the Warwick Fire Department, 32
chief cars, five antiques, 24 engines, eight aerials, seven rescues and two
tankers.
The parade also will include farm tractors from the area and a Kazoo band from
Warwick.
Trucks will be judged from 10 a.m. to noon, at Veterans Memorial Park in five
categories: Engines, aerials, rescues, tankers and antiques. Judging includes
the inspection of all parts of the apparatus; lights, battery boxes, engine
compartments, rusty or chipped tools, cleanliness of cab interior and
compartments as well as tires, undercarriage, windows and hoses.
All apparatus must be judged in order to be eligible for the “Best Overall”
prize in the parade.
Fire
companies will start lining up for the parade at 1 p.m. Lineup areas are Park
Avenue, Burt Street, Park Way and Park Lane.
The parade will be led by Grand Marshal Teofil Lavinski and his Division
Marshals; Melissa Stevens (first), George Schick (second), George Opper (third),
Frank Corkum Jr. (fourth) and Harvey Paffenroth (fifth) will lead their
divisions to South Street, turning right onto Clinton Avenue, proceeding to
Linden Place then turning right onto Oakland Avenue to Main Street, passing the
reviewing stand at the Village Hall, then traveling to Colonial, turning right
onto Forester Avenue. The apparatus will proceed to Veterans Memorial Park while
the marchers will fall out at Warwick Station One. Trophy Presentation will take
place at about 6 p.m.
